I grew up in Pontevedra, Spain and got to understand early on the power of the media and the importance of getting your side of the story told.
During the economic downturn of 2008, most of the small businesses in the construction industry in my town closed down, devastating the local economy and putting most families through great financial and emotional turmoil.
This happened because these small businesses didn't have anyone to help them tell their side of the story to the media. So the larger corporations were the only ones who were getting heard. What was actually happening was not what was being reported in the press. It made me so angry to see that the whole story wasn't being reported.
I am certain that if those businesses had had access to the media, or a media ready mentor to guide them on how to tell their story, they would still be around today.
The media can give everyone a voice, if they choose to be heard.
